Do you have a fear of COMITTMENT...to your goals?

One thing I've come to notice when it comes to personal goals, is that it's VERY easy to get off track, but then I'm left wondering...how committed are we to those goals if it is so easy to wander off the path of achievement?

I see this all too often in those who are seeking to develop healthy routines in their life and for one reason or another it doesn't always work out. The desire is there but the commitment to the change takes work and sacrifice that will usually get replaced by stories and excuses to justify why the goal wasn't accomplished.  What are you afraid of?  You commit and succeed!?  Or you commit and fail, but learn a valuable lesson, which by the way, is still success. ; )

THE GOOD INTENTION

As and example, I've had many people in my life who constantly talk about getting into better shape to feel good, look good and create balance within their lives.  They want to change those unhealthy habits and negative thought processes.  GREAT!  Well, the first thing that comes to mind is a change in diet and exercise with some powerful coaching.  So, naturally we set the goals.  In many cases, it means cutting out the junk (both with food and mental clutter), removing excess drinking (yes...no weekend benders) and setting up a proper exercise routine that supports the best outcomes.  Discipline and routine for any goals being set.  Sounds simple, right!?

THE PROBLEM

Then..."Life Happens."  All too often I hear, "it's my birthday, so I had to celebrate," followed by the next week of "I had a friend in town who wanted to go out and cut loose" followed by "it was a stressful day at work and I needed my wine or those chicken wings" followed by, "it's a long weekend or a holiday," followed by "everyone needed my help to save...to fix...to rescue..."  "I will start tomorrow."  Yet, what I've discovered is that particular tomorrow never comes and what we have is a lot of FOLLOWERS.  Here's the deal folks; there is ALWAYS going to be something that will distract us from our path if we let it.  Yes...I said it...if WE let it happen.  Remember, we all have the power of CHOICE. No one is forcing you to say yes.

THE SOLUTION

The thing that sets many successful people apart is their ability to go against the grain or the standard "norm" in society where their decisions and way of life aren't always going to be the most popular.  I'm not going to lie.  Sometimes it's a lonely path to travel, but after some time and discipline, those new habits become game changers and you begin to attract "like minds" into your life that can hold us accountable and motivate us so that we evolve to that next level.  We only achieve extraordinary when we stop following the rest and settling for ordinary.

Does that mean you stop having fun all together?  No.  It's called BALANCE.   So yes... treat yourself to a cheat day and have some fun now and again.  Let loose once in a while and celebrate...and when you do...appreciate those times even more knowing that it's a treat for yourself and a reward for the hard work you've put in versus making unhealthy habits into a lifestyle of UN-commitments.

How committed are you?  When it comes to the most meaningful goals, sometimes that may mean not eating a ton of your favorite food on the holidays, or binge drinking on a birthday or because friends are in town.  Sometimes that means having a weekend of mental health and productivity or saying "no" because the focus in that moment really does need to be on you.  I KNOW...how terrible...going for weeks on end with nothing but proper diet, exercise and mental health activities!  How ever can one survive!?  Yes, I say that with the utmost of sarcasm and care because you can do it!

At the end of the day, once you commit...recognize and document the changes you notice.  Trust me, your mind and body will thank you.  Day ONE...is TODAY!
